I've learned that anything God expressly forbids in His Word should be avoided, regardless of my personal feelings. This means I must also surrender my desires that contradict His instructions. If my feelings feel like a heavy weight, then they need to be laid aside before they become a sin that easily entangles me. (Hebrews 12:1)
One specific instruction from God is found in Isaiah 43:18-21: "Remember not the former things."
Often, the difficulty in forgiving others stems from our refusal to forget past wrongs, which can blind us to the fact that we, too, need God's mercy. Realizing that we were once an enemy to God can make it easier to extend forgiveness.
Forgiving someone doesn't necessarily mean reconciling or allowing them back into your life. Rather, it means not letting your mind, heart, will, and emotions remain tied to the memory of the offense.
Love keeps no record of wrongs. Walking in the freedom of forgiveness and love God's way involves adopting a mature posture, moving on mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
Putting revelations into song can make them easier to remember. Singing God’s word is vital. Here’s a song I composed to help you dwell in God’s presence and embrace His teachings on forgiveness.
