Discerning The Burning Bush
Right now many people in the body of Christ are in a “Discerning the burning bush season.”
There are moments in life when God shows up in ways we least expect. We know He speaks, and we long to hear His voice, but sometimes, the way He communicates doesn’t align with the patterns we’re used to.
Imagine this: God speaks to you from a burning bush—unmistakable, awe-inspiring, yet… you hesitate. Not because you don’t believe it’s Him, but because you’ve never heard Him speak that way before. In that moment, the choice is yours: Will you trust that the voice calling out to you is truly His, even if it’s not in the way you’re familiar with?
This is often the struggle when we go through seasons where we feel distant from God or as though we can’t hear from Him. It’s easy to assume that God has gone silent or is somehow absent. But what if the truth is that God is speaking in a new way? What if He’s calling us to listen more attentively to the burning bush moments of our lives—those unexpected, unfamiliar ways He wants to reveal Himself to us?
In the Bible, when God called Moses from the burning bush (Exodus 3), it was a profound, one-of-a-kind moment. The bush was on fire but not consumed, a supernatural symbol that immediately caught Moses’ attention. God didn’t speak to him in a typical manner, but rather in a way that broke Moses’ expectations and forced him to listen. That moment marked the beginning of a new chapter in Moses’ life and mission.
Fast forward to today, and we often miss the burning bush because we’re looking for God to speak in ways that are comfortable or familiar. Maybe we expect God to speak in a certain prayer meeting, in a quiet moment of devotion, or through the same scripture we’ve always read. And while God can speak through those means, He’s not limited to them. He’s not bound by the ways we’ve been conditioned to expect.
God’s voice is dynamic. He is not a God who is predictable in our terms. Just like He spoke to Moses from the burning bush, God might speak to you in unexpected circumstances, through a random conversation, an unforeseen challenge, or even in moments of silence when you feel most alone. His voice can be heard through the whispers of the wind or the overwhelming peace that floods your soul in a time of chaos.
Jesus tells us in John 10:27, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” But notice what He didn’t say: “My sheep hear my voice because I speak the same way to them every single time.” The voice of the Shepherd isn’t limited to a single mode of communication. We are not to limit our hearing to just one format. The key is not in recognizing the method He uses but in recognizing the content of His voice—the truth, the guidance, the love, and the direction He speaks into our lives.
So, if you find yourself in a season where you feel like you’re not hearing from God, don’t assume He’s absent. Instead, ask yourself: “Is God trying to teach me to trust Him in a new way? Am I looking for His voice in the places I’ve always known, or am I open to hearing Him in new, unexpected places?”
Maybe the burning bush for you looks like a new challenge, a new opportunity, or even a new relationship. Maybe it’s a moment of stillness or a sudden burst of inspiration that leads you to act in faith. Whatever form it takes, the key is to be aware and to listen attentively. God may not always speak in the way you expect, but His voice will always lead you to something greater.
The good news is that His grace is sufficient for us to perceive the new thing He’s doing in our lives. May we have the discernment to hear His voice in all its forms, and the courage to follow where He leads, even when the path looks unfamiliar. Just like the burning bush, God’s presence is not confined to one place or one way—He’s calling us to experience Him in new and extraordinary ways.
Trusting God Further Than You Can See Him
Trusting God often requires us to step beyond the limits of what we can see, understand, or predict. There are times when His ways are unclear, when the path ahead is shrouded in uncertainty, and when we feel as though we’re walking blindfolded. In those moments, the temptation is to wait until everything is crystal clear before we move forward. But faith calls us to trust God even when we can’t trace His hand. Like Moses at the burning bush, God sometimes leads us into situations where we can’t see the end result or how everything will work out. Yet, it’s precisely in those moments that we are invited to lean not on our own understanding but to trust that He is at work, even when we can’t see the full picture. Faith isn’t just about believing when everything makes sense; it’s about trusting God’s heart when the road ahead seems uncertain. The more we learn to trust God beyond what we can see, the more we experience His faithfulness in ways that deepen our relationship with Him.
Prayer:
May God give you the grace to perceive the new thing He is doing in your life. Stay open, stay receptive, and trust that the Shepherd’s voice is always leading you to greener pastures. ❤️🔥
