Renewing The Mind Around Forgiveness
Be Transformed by the Renewing of Your Mind
Let’s start there. Transformation begins not with what you see, but with HOW you see it.
We often think of forgiveness as something we have to do—another box to check, another requirement to meet. And because of that, we linger in bitterness, convinced we’re protecting ourselves by holding on. But let’s be honest—the real reason we hold on so tightly is because it feels comfortable. Familiar. Safe.
God, however, wants to renew your mind on this.
The Holy Spirit is the only true Comforter, and He comforts with Truth—not lies, not bitterness, not a sense of false security. Somewhere along the way, your understanding of comfort may have been shaped by a peace that you created, not one rooted in Jesus. And if it’s not in Him, it’s counterfeit.
So what if we started seeing forgiveness not as a burden, but as protection?
You don’t have to understand why they did what they did to forgive. You can forgive by faith.
“Faith comes by hearing, and hearing through the Word of God.” (Romans 10:17)
If God’s Word says, “Forgive others, and God will forgive you,” then forgiveness is a step of faith. It doesn’t require your understanding—it requires your decision to agree with God’s Word.
Your reputation? It doesn’t matter here. If that becomes your focus, you’ll sit in offense and cherish it more than you cherish Jesus. You’ll replay the offense over and over until it becomes a monument in your mind.
But here’s the reality: Forgiving others doesn’t mean they won. In fact wondering about their consequences or the lack thereof will not help you.
Forgiveness becomes easier when you recognize this: You, too, were once an enemy of God. Yet, He chose to forgive you.
Let your mind be renewed, and watch how freedom from the offense past or present follows.
